Rev. Denise Burriss
has been practicing yoga since she was 19, and received her certification to teach yoga when she was 22 years. old.
During her 30-year career as a Minister in the AME Church, Certified Yoga Teacher, and founder of Serenity With Denise Yoga studio, Rev. Dense has built a community that includes both beginners and seasoned yoga instructors, and serves as the Minister of Health and Wellness at Turner Memorial AME Church.
Graduating Cum Laude from the University of the District of Columbia with a degree in psychology, and attending Cheyney State College where she began her study in psychology and special education, Rev. Denise has come to view yoga as “the language of the mind, body, and spirit”. She encourages yoga practitioners to become more literate in those realms of connecting to the Will of God through prayer, yoga, and meditation.
Trained in various systems of Yoga and Ayurveda, Rev. Burriss has led Women’s Retreats and Serenity Yoga Retreats for Churches, corporations and community organizations throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia area.
With 24 years of teaching Serenity Yoga during my 30 years of Ministry, I'm excited to share my life's purpose with you. Serenity With Denise Yoga is not just yoga, it's much more. It doesn’t matter how you are feeling, a gentle yoga practice will always help lift your spirit. My mission is to make this practice accessible to everyone, especially during these unprecedented times.
Her philosophy of life begins with Psalms 34:1, “I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually
be in my mouth"
