If you are already familiar with her philosophy, then you know Rev. Burriss is an ordained Minister and psychologist whose vision is to weave together spirituality and the art of understanding human behavior. Rev. Denise encourages balancing family and career to experience joy, inner peace and wellness.
Rev. Denise has been a Minister in the AME Church for more than 20 years. She is married to Allen Burriss, and they are blessed with three adult children and four grandchildren.
A native of Washington, DC, Rev. Burriss received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of the District of Columbia. Licensed to preach in 1989, Rev. Burriss was ordained an Itinerate Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1991.
The second of eight children of Dr. David and Lillie Harris, Rev. Burriss is eternally grateful for the teaching and instruction from great women and men in her personal life and in ministry on whose shoulders she stands and honors in her service to God.
Rev. Denise has has taught serenity yoga and relaxation techniques while serving as the Minister to Women at Turner Memorial, AME Church, and coordinating and facilitating on and off-site women’s retreats. Prior to being assigned to Turner Memorial, Rev. Denise served on the planning committee for women’s retreats at Hemingway Memorial, AME Church. Working with the community, Rev. Burriss taught Restorative and Serenity Yoga at the Petworth Library in Washington, DC.
Rev. Burriss’ career in the staffing and employment industry for more than 20 years is very much a part of her ministry, which began during the 1980’s, volunteering in women’s homeless shelters, conducting parenting workshops, assisting with resume writing, interview preparation, career development, and teaching women how to balance family life and professional career development.
Rev. Burriss has worked in the private sector as Staffing Manager and Recruiter with national Staffing Firms, Office Specialists and Randstad.
In 2000, combining her years of experience in the private sector, Rev. Burriss began working with the DC Department of Employment Services as an Employer Marketing Specialist where she is currently employed, assisting with managing Satellite Career Centers, conducting workshops on Interviewing Techniques and Career Development.
Rev. Denise encourages women of all ages to experience the holistic benefits of finding joy, and embracing calm with positive energy. When you apply these benefits to everyday life, you create balance and harmony, which are gifts from God. She believes strongly in these words, "Peace I bring to you, my peace I leave with you".
